The Minister of Petroleum conducts an inspection tour of Alexandria Port to follow up on the preparations for the liquefaction plant

As part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ field monitoring and intensified preparations to ensure the petroleum sector’s infrastructure is fully ready to secure natural gas supplies during the summer season, Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, conducted an inspection tour of the Alexandria Port to monitor the preparations for the Energos Power LNG vessel, in preparation for its deployment and docking at the Ain Sokhna Port quay.

This step comes as part of the Ministry’s plan to enhance the flexibility of the national natural gas grid by adding new LNG refueling units capable of receiving imported LNG shipments, re-refueling them, and pumping them directly into the grid. This will help meet the growing demand for gas, especially for power plants and other vital sectors during the summer months.

During the visit, Engineer Karim Badawi observed the progress of the technical work and necessary modifications to the vessel that arrived at the Alexandria Port. He directed the importance of expediting the completion of the preparations while fully adhering to all occupational health and safety requirements and environmental protection. The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources indicated that Egypt now has three liquefaction plants, one of which is already operating at the SUMED Port in Sokhna. The two new vessels, including the Energos Power, are being prepared to connect to the SUMED and Sonker Ports in Ain Sokhna, as part of an integrated system aimed at diversifying supply sources and ensuring the sustainability of fuel flows, especially in light of the ongoing regional challenges.

The Minister emphasized the continued close coordination between the Ministries of Petroleum and Electricity and all relevant authorities, in implementation of the directives of the Prime Minister, with the aim of ensuring the stability of the supply system for power plants, whether natural gas or liquid fuels (mazut and diesel).

The Minister was accompanied during the tour by Dr. Khaled El-Badry, Undersecretary for Projects, Engineer Walid Lotfy, Chairman of Petrojet, and Engineer Wael Lotfy, Chairman of ENPPI.
