As World Sustainability Day approaches, Beyti – an Almarai subsidiary – held an awareness session titled “From Ambition to Impact: Beyti’s Leadership in Embedding Environmental and Social Sustainability Standards.” The session highlighted the company’s efforts to integrate sustainability across its operations and translate its objectives into tangible impact, in line with Egypt’s sustainable development agenda under Egypt Vision 2030.
Mr. Chris Abboud, General Manager of Beyti – an Almarai subsidiary, opened the session with a welcome address, followed by keynote speeches from Dr. Nermine Abou El Atta, Advisor to the Minister of Industry for Sustainable Development, and Dr. Saber Osman, Assistant to the Minister of Local Development and Environment for Sustainability and Social Responsibility.
The session focused on two themes: national frameworks for sustainable manufacturing in the food and beverage sector, and the role of private-sector partnerships in opening new horizons for sustainable innovation. The programme also included a ceremony honouring Beyti’s partners in recognition of their contributions to the company’s sustainability journey.
Commenting on the session, Chris Abboud, General Manager of Beyti, an Almarai subsidiary, said: “At Beyti, sustainability is embedded in how we run our business and how we create value, and our ‘Doing Better Every Day’ strategy rests on caring for people, protecting the planet, and developing safe products. We believe applying standards is the starting point. The real goal is the impact we make. Our message today is simple: clear targets, practical steps, and partnerships that create impact.”
Beyti’s sustainability initiatives build on ongoing efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions. In 2020, the company began a partial transition to natural gas to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 30%. In 2021, Beyti invested in a 7.6 MW solar power plant, the largest grid-connected solar power plant in Egypt’s food and beverage sector. The plant supplies around 20% of the factory’s energy needs, with Beyti targeting an increase to 30% by 2028.
As part of its commitment to the circular economy, Beyti joined the Egyptian Used Beverage Carton (UBC) Pact at COP27 and supported the nationwide “Dawar El 3elba Tdorlak” campaign to promote carton recycling. Since 2022, Beyti has prevented generating approximately 290 tonnes of plastic waste annually and recycles around 25,000 tonnes of secondary packaging cartons each year.
On the people front, Beyti has earned Top Employer certification in Egypt for two consecutive years, 2025 and 2026. It works with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to advance gender equality, and offers equal-length paternity leave and a childcare centre at its headquarters. In community support, the “A Cup a Day, A Hero Every Day” programme, implemented by Beyti in cooperation with the Egyptian Pediatric Association, with the goal of reaching 100,000 over the next three years. Beyti also contributed to the development of West Nubariya Central Hospital with advanced medical equipment, supporting 600,000 patients. Through the El-Kasseeb initiative, Beyti has empowered hundreds of young entrepreneurs and aims to reach 800 by 2027.
Through its Kheir Mazare3na programme, Beyti supports more than 100 farms and provides farmers with more than 500 hours of training each year. Economically, Beyti has invested more than EGP 7 billion in Egypt and has an EGP 8.7 billion investment plan for 2025–2027. It provides around 6,000 direct jobs and around 19,000 indirect jobs, exports to more than 45 countries, and sources 67% of its raw and packaging materials locally.
Looking ahead, Beyti – an Almarai subsidiary – continues to build on these efforts through its 2030 sustainability vision, which targets a 25% reduction in its carbon footprint, a 20% improvement in resource efficiency, zero waste sent to landfill, and 100% recyclable packaging. These initiatives reflect Beyti’s approach of turning sustainability goals into practical steps across all aspects of its business.
